Course: Deliver more value

While teams can be delivering lots of work items on a regular basis, there is no guarantee that this work creates more value for customers and end users.  

Sometimes the best way to demonstrate that teams are delivering more value is to first define an agreed way of measuring value, and then to measure the value of all work of the team, and prioritise high-value work.

Within a short amount of time, you can demonstrate how much more value your teams are delivering.

This course is for people working in Agile software development, whether Scrum or Kanban or otherwise, and who needs to demonstrate performance improvements.

Types of roles that should attend this course include; Scrum Masters, Agile Coaches, Agile Project Managers, Product Owners, Delivery Leads, Product Managers, Delivery Managers, Iteration Managers, and so on. 

This course is open to any members of an IT team, and also to managers who need to demonstrate improved performance of their teams.

This course is for people with beginner to intermediate skills in Agile delivery and project delivery.  It is designed to help teams improve their performance by measuring and increasing the amount of value they deliver.  

Many teams are being asked to increase the amount of work items they deliver or increase their Velocity to demonstrate that they are improving their performance.  This course teaches you how to improve performance by delivering more value rather than more work items and to measure how much value is being delivered as evidence of performance improvement.

Create a Value Framework

• How to create and roll out a value framework in your organisation
• How to define and measure the benefits of all initiatives
• How to use this information to prioritise initiatives by value

MODULE 2

Breaking down work by value

• How to break down projects into valuable deliverables
• How to split User Stories focussing on high value components
• How to determine when deliverables should not proceed based upon their lack of value 

MODULE 3

Measuring outcomes and impacts

• How to categorise performance measures into Outcomes and Impacts to start measuring what’s important
• How to use Outcomes and Impacts to drive the delivery of higher value
• How to measure productivity in terms of the value delivered

This training course can be delivered face to face, or online format.  When presented face to face, it will require 2 days.  When viewing online, it is self-paced but allow between 5 to 8 hours in total.

Moving from output-based performance measurement (throughput, Velocity, etc.) to value-based performance measurement gives many great benefits:

1. The value of the work becomes the focus of improvement, which results in greater outcomes for the organisation.  The team are able to measure the amount of value delivered before making the recommended changes and then after making the changes, and show how much more value is now being delivered.  This value can be measured in quantiative metrics such as customer engagement rates, or in qualitative feedback such as comments and ratings from customers, or as financial gains such as profits, cost reduction, customer lifetime value, etc.
   
   
2. Shorter iterations of incremental delivery will accelerate feedback cycles and prioritisation of high-value work, leading to higher customer satisfaction and engagement, or higher staff satisfaction and performance if software is built for internal users.
   
   
3. Team satisfaction and engagement increases when team members can see the value of the work they are doing, and understand its importance and priority.  Benefit measures shows the team their value in near real-time with metrics and feedback being generated regularly from end users.
