Module 1: How to cut down the time to deliver value to customers

- Explain what Lead Time and Cycle Time are, and their significance in reducing costs

Identify and reduce queues in the delivery process

- Identify where queues exist in your delivery process, or are quickly forming

Understand the 7 types of waste often encountered in software

- Know what types of waste occur in software initiatives
- Know why waste occurs, and when to eliminate it from the process
- Visualise the different waste categories for teams to begin eliminating it from their process
How to remove waste from the delivery lifecycle
Learning outcomes:
- Apply proactive measures to remove waste
- Make it the team's responsibility to identify and remove waste regularly
- Measure the amount of waste removed, and turn this into a monetary saving
How to calculate savings from waste remediation
Learning outcomes:
- How to measure the cost impact of waste items
- How to extrapolate such costs to get a total savings figure
- How to summarise results for an executive audience
Module 3: How to avoid doing low-value work
Identify and avoid unplanned and low-value work
Learning outcomes:
- Understand what "unplanned work" is, and how it occurs
- Know how to identify low-value or unplanned/unexpected work
- Make work more visible to be able to eliminate low-value work
Rapid prioritisation technique to de-prioritise low value work
Learning outcomes:
- Develop a prioritisation framework that prevents, or de-prioritises, low-value work
- Socialise the framework and process for getting work prioritised
- Bring all work through this framework

Prevent or minimise disruption from impacting prioritised work
Learning outcomes:
- Show the impact of unplanned or unexpected work to stakeholders
- Set expectations about how work gets prioritised and comes into the team
- Set capacity limits for the different categories/classes of work
